What Is TORC Cleaning and why does it matter?

Ageing, pollution build-up, and post-construction mess are never kind to buildings. So, when it comes to commercial building facades, the cleaning method needs to be strong yet gentle.

The approach needs to be powerful enough to remove dirt and grime without damaging the brickwork or stone; a method of cleaning that can restore the intricate facade of the building while treating it with care and consideration, and without costing a fortune.

TORC Cleaning is a revolutionary, non-obtrusive restoration technology that has already become a preferred method of restorative cleaning of commercial buildings and heritage sites. Here is everything you need to know about TORC Cleaning and why you should consider it for your next commercial building restoration project.

What is TORC Cleaning?

Construction work can be messy and removing brittle paint, limescale, and smoke deposits using conventional cleaning methods can be extremely difficult.

TORC’s unique, patented cleaning system allows it to massage away tough carbon build-up from building facades and stone without causing damage to the surface.

Developed by Stonehealth Limited, TORC Cleaning is a perfectly environmentally-friendly method of cleaning, removing mould, grime, and paint from the exteriors of commercial buildings.

For over 20 years, the TORC Cleaning system has been used to completely eliminate carbon sulphation, bird fouling, and limescale from brick, stone and modern building facades without resorting to harmful chemicals, detergents, or cleansers.

How does TORC Cleaning work?

TORC Cleaning is a way to clean exterior surfaces of brick and stone with little to no need for chemicals. Instead, it uses a mixture of water and very fine calcium carbonate to clean using just high-pressure air and a splash of water.

But that’s not all! TORC Cleaning doesn’t leave behind microscopic dust particles left by standard cleaning methods, making it a proven, go-to technology for cleaning monuments, buildings, commercial facades, and public spaces.

Three methods of cleaning masonry

Cleaning masonry is a key part of proper building maintenance. Without it, you won’t be able to combat the problems created by the accumulation of surface pollutants, paint damage, limescale damage or fouling.

But masonry cleaning can be a tough thing to tackle because it focuses on something that has been sealed since its installation. But it isn’t impossible.

That being said, a brick building can’t be cleaned in the same way as a stone wall, which adds another layer of difficulty. That’s why as commercial restoration experts, we use three variants of aggregate for cleaning using the TORC method.

  • Calcite: For carbon removal from masonry.
  • Dolomite: For removing paint residues from stone surfaces.
  • Unil: For removing hard matter from any surface.

Common uses of TORC Cleaning

TORC Cleaning is one of our most commonly required post-construction or restorative cleaning methods. It focuses on cleaning and removing pollutants and construction debris from the site without scratching or damaging the surface.

The technology is primarily used for property cleaning, carbon sulphation removal, smoke damage, oil-based paint removal, cement-based paints removal, limescale damage, grime removal, and bird fouling.

Benefits of TORC Cleaning

TORC Cleaning is one of the fastest, most efficient ways to clean stone building facades and monuments. It provides a naturally clean, fresh-looking finish to the substrate and is suitable for all types of stone including limestone, sandstone, granite and marble – making it perfect for heritage sites.
